Blonde follows a young woman navigating life, work and love as something far more unsettling begins to emerge.
The film began as a short story published in Vitrine: A Printed Museum. After a directing retreat at La MaMa Umbria, Joanna Strange adapted it into a screenplay that offers no conventional explanation for its central character.
“Blonde plays out the way much of life does — with questions, with wonder, with curiosity.”
Is it a thriller? A love story? A mystery? The film refuses to choose for its audience. Blonde has no past to excuse her, no diagnosis to contain her and no final answer that lets the viewer comfortably look away.

Joanna
Strange
Joanna Strange is a New York writer and director whose work spans theatre and film. She earned her MA in directing from NYU, studying under Kristin Horton, after completing a BA in theatre performance at the University of South Florida.
Blonde grew from a short story into her debut film and screened at eleven festivals, including two Oscar-qualifying short-film festivals. She later wrote about the joyful, punishing and deeply personal work of getting the film made while becoming a mother.
